Accuracy of the spectrum  If a lamp produces light within a spectrum that is close to that of natural sunlight and has a high quantity (lumen output) it will have a high level of PAR. The higher the PAR the more energy there is to cause photosynthesis.  The LumenIZE® enabled Jungle Dawn LED Bar stores your programming within each lamp and backs this up with a small exchangeable battery. If a power cut happens, the memory within each bar is maintained. When the power is restored, the lamp will illuminate, or not, at the correct part of its programming. ProRep Tortoise Life is part of the species-specific “Life” series of substrates and has been created to meet the needs of Tortoises originating from dry habitats, particularly Mediterranean and Russian Tortoises. It is a blend of professional quality loam, soft fine sand and coconut husk that provides the ideal mix of texture and moisture retention, simulating the soils found in their natural habitats. The addition of coconut husk allows for a lighter substrate without the mineral content, increasing the organic material in the mix provides peace of mind if accidently ingested. It is also suitable for many species of lizards that originate from similar habitats. Directions: Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth of at least 2″ (5cm) for young animals and 6″ (15cm) or more for mature animals. Russian tortoises particularly may need a deeper substrate as they burrow extensively. Spot-clean daily to remove soiled substrate and replace completely every 2 or 3 weeks. Dairy Cow Woodlice (Porcellio laevis) are one of the larger species of isopod commonly used as terrarium custodians or ‘clean-up crew’ and live and breed well in bio-active set-ups. As adults, they may attain a length of up to 18mm long. Dairy Cow Woodlice are also useful as a livefood for many reptiles and amphibians and have the advantage of a high calcium content due to their calcarious exo-skeleton. If they are to be used as food, they are best served up in a smooth-sided dish in much the same way as mealworms or calci-worms. To thrive and become established in the terrarium, they need to be in a constantly damp and humid microclimate which normally means that they hide away for much of the time under branches, rocks or within the substrate.
